January 2014

The first meeting of the project Steering Committee

Starting from January 2014, the implementation of the project “Promotion of investment opportunities and cooperation between small and medium sized enterprises through development of cross-border ties in the Carpathian region” has begun in Ivano-Frankivsk region and MaramuresCounty (Romania). The project aims at strengthening social and economic development in the Carpathian Region by fostering cooperation among small and medium sized enterprises, in order to solve regional problems in investment, creation of a favourable investment climate in Ukrainian-Romanian cross-border region, improving its image through cross-border cooperation.

The project is realized by the Association of Economic Development of Ivano-Frankivsk in the partnership with Development Centre for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Maramures (Romania) and Department of Implementation of Economic reforms, European Integration and Investment of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration in the framework of the Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine ENPI Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013.

The first Steering Committee meeting of the project “Promotion of investment opportunities and cooperation between small and medium sized enterprises through development of cross-border ties in the Carpathian region” was held on January 31, 2014 in Ivano-Frankivsk. During the meeting, the following issues were brought up: the procedure for selecting the Steering Committee members, approval of the meeting composure, the statute and regulations of the Steering Committee, implementation of the project in 2014, its main objectives and activities. Special attention was paid to the preparation and organization of inaugural meeting, conduction of analytical and sociological research, preparation of training modules and a workshop.

About the project “Promotion of investment opportunities and cooperation between small and medium sized enterprises through development of cross-border ties in the Carpathian region”

Goal of the project: strengthening of social and economic development in the Carpathian Region by fostering cooperation among small and medium sized enterprises, in order to solve regional problems in investment, creation of a favourable investment climate in Ukrainian-Romanian cross-border region, improving its image through cross-border cooperation.

Total duration of the Action: 20 months

Locations of the Action: Ukraine (Ivano-Frankivsk Region), Romania (Maramures County).

Target groups: small and medium sized enterprises; government and local self-government institutions; potential investors.

Main activities:

  1. Assessment of the investment potential of small and medium sized enterprises in the Carpathian Region through the conduction of analytical research and public opinion  survey for effective cross-border investment and creating a favourable investment climate of Carpathian region;
  2. Improvement of the skills and knowledge level of local government officials, small and medium sized enterprises through training programs;
  3. Building joint information space and a more positive image of the Carpathian Euroregion in the regional and international markets;
  4. Improving competitiveness, investment and innovation activity of the Carpathian Region through organizing and conducting International Investment Forum.

Estimated results:

Quantitative results: 1Steering Committee; 4 meetings of Steering Committee; 2 project expert groups; 2 conferences (60 participants); 4 expert group meetings; 2 round tables sessions (40 participants); 2 focus group meetings (40 participants); 1 analytic research (Ukrainian, Romanian, integrated); 1 public opinion research  of 200 respondents (Ukrainian, Romanian, integrated); 4 training modules and 1 workshop (40 participants); 1 database; 1 three-lingual guide of experience with successful practices (5000 copies); 1 three-lingual promotional brochure about the investment attractiveness of the region (5000 copies); 1 three-lingual map of the investment potential of the Carpathian region (5000 copies), 1 three-lingual catalogue of investment proposals in the region (5000 copies);  1 International Investment Forum (70 participants).

Qualitative results: involvement of investments in the small and medium sized enterprises; creation of additional workplaces in small and medium sized enterprises; establishment of cooperation in the development of investment activity.
